On September 9-10, trainings were held on family law issues at the LAS Tbilisi Bureau office. The training was attended the LAS lawyers and lawyers of the private sector. The event was organized with support of UNDP and the EU.
The expert of Law Firms Association of Georgia in family law and the partner of the law firm VBAT, Mr. Davit Kikaleishvili led the training process. The following issues were discussed at the training: parents’ obligation to support their children; restriction, suspension and deprivation of parental rights and obligations; right to protect a representative of a child; guardianship and care, etc. The focus was made on existing national and international legislation regarding rights of a parent, as well as practice of the Georgian and European courts.
The training was held as a part of a two-year learning program designed for lawyers who provide free legal aid. The training program consists of more than 150 trainings on up to 40 different topics which are planned to be carried out in 2016-2017 with support of UNDP and the EU. Legal Aid Service cooperates with Law Firms Association of Georgia and Georgian bar Association.
Professional development of the LAS lawyers is one of the priorities of the project Enhancing Access to Justice and Development of a Child-Friendly Justice System in Georgia which is being implemented by UNICEF and UNDP with financial support from the EU.
