Legal Aid Service published legal brochures in 7 different languages. It became possible with support of the European Union and the United Nations Development Programme under the joint initiative - Enhancing Access to Justice and Development of a Child-Friendly Justice System in Georgia.
The legal brochures are dedicated to such issues as: service of legal assistance, inheritance, marriage, purchase-selling of real estate, protection of victims of domestic violence, recognition of a person as a beneficiary of support, registration in the unified database of the socially vulnerable families, as well as – establishing of fact of legal importance. The brochures were published in Georgian, Abkhazian, Ossetian, Armenian, Azerbaijanian, Russian and English languages.
One of the main priorities of the reform of Legal Aid Service is raising public awareness. With this aim, the LAS lawyers periodically carry out meetings with various groups of the society, render consultations and distribute brochures on actual legal issues. With the purpose to raise legal awareness of the society, up to 200 various activities were implemented last year: information meetings were carried out with schoolchildren, IDPs, representatives of the ethnic minorities, employees of local administration and Social Service Agency.
Support to strengthening of Legal Aid Service in Georgia is one of the priorities of the joint initiative of the European Union (EU) and United Nations “Enhancing Access to Justice and Development of a Child-friendly Justice System in Georgia”. With a budget of Euro 3.3 million, the programme aims to consolidate the independence, professionalism and efficiency of the judiciary and strengthen access to justice through the creation of a more effective system of justice for children based on a dedicated regulatory framework and implementation mechanism, improved institutional capacities of the Ministry of Justice and other major justice stakeholders and the greater independence and effectiveness of the legal profession and legal aid system with greater use of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
