In accordance with the International Convention "On the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination," Nino Meladze, the first Deputy Director of the Legal Aid Service, took part in the discussion of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in Geneva on November 23–24, 2022. The State Report of Georgia was prepared in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
Khatuna Totladze, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Georgia, who was in charge of the delegation, gave a presentation at the start of the meeting outlining the steps the government had taken recently to safeguard human rights.
The delegation members, who were representatives of various agencies, then discussed the ongoing and completed activities related to the Convention implementation.
Nino Meladze drew attention to the protection of the rights of children, persons with disabilities, ethnic minorities, foreigners, stateless persons, migrants, refugees, forcibly displaced persons, and other beneficiaries, as well as the ongoing projects implemented by the Legal Aid Service in order to raise their legal awareness.
The Committee members thanked the Georgian delegation for openness and involvement, as well as for the constructive and productive dialogue. They gave the reforms the nation has implemented a favorable review. Following the discussion, the Committee will receive final opinions, which will include recommendations for further actions. The aforementioned recommendations are reflected in the relevant national action plans.
