In March, 2018, the IDP from Abkhazia, socially vulnerable S.J. addressed the LAS Samegrelo-Zugdidi Legal Aid Bureau for assistance. In the framework of the state program on providing IDPs’ with long-term accommodation, his family had been waiting for accommodation for years. However they always lacked scores and were left without a house.
According to the procedures, the IDP family needs to have a certain amount of scores. The number of score is, the more is a chance to get accommodation. Thus, each score is very important.
Zugdidi Bureau consultant, Nino Minjia, decided to find all legal documents necessary to solve the question. She found out that S.J.’s grandparents were shot during the Abkhazia conflict. However, it was very hard to prove that fact.
The defense attorney, Nino Minjia, collected several evidences – official documents, publications, photos, lists of the shot during the conflict, testimonies of witnesses, etc. She drafted an application for S.J. to submit it to the High Council of Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia. She demanded to make a correction in the list of victims of ethnic cleansing in Abkhazia.
On April 2, 2018, the High Council satisfied the request in short time.
The socially vulnerable IDP family received 3 more scores so they got the chance to be provided with the accommodation at first place.
