On March 17-18, 2026, as part of the Legal Aid Service (LAS) project "Paralegals", with the support of the Georgian Bar Association, a training was held, which was attended by students selected from the top universities in Tbilisi.
David Simonia, Director of the Legal Aid Service, welcomed the training by introducing the young people to the subject matter, significance of the "Paralegals" project, and roles of the volunteers.
Lawyers of the Specialized Cases Bureau - Lady Kordzadze and Victoria Butskhrikidze delivered a presentation on women's and children's rights, legal issues of domestic violence, and the rights of persons with disabilities, while lawyers Irma Jimshiashvili and Giorgi Shermadini discussed issues of social security, labor law, contracts, and labor disputes.
The second day of the training covered family law, marriage-divorce, alimony, parental rights, inheritance, property disposal, tenancy, and eviction procedures, where attorneys Tea Khamkhadze and Besik Sisvadze shared theoretical knowledge and their practical experience with the paralegals.
In the final part of the training, attorney Lasha Kalandadze provided the young people with extensive information about the professional standards of a lawyer, ethics, confidentiality, impartiality, conflict of interest, and respect for citizens.
Notably, the Legal Aid Service's "Paralegals" scheme has been in operation since 2022. It entails retraining public servants in a range of legal matters so they may offer primary legal counsel.
The first phase of the project was implemented in Batumi, Kutaisi and Akhaltsikhe, and it was launched in Tbilisi in 2026.
