On May 10, in Sighnaghi, the director of Legal Aid Service, Meliton Benidze and MP of Sighnaghi, Gela Gelashvili opened a new office of the state funded Legal Aid Service. The members of Legal Aid Council and the representatives of local government and non-governmental organizations attended the event.
The LAS Sighnaghi Bureau will provide free advocacy service and legal consultation to three municipalities of Kakheti.
The citizens residing in Sighnaghi, Dedophlistskaro and Sagarejo Municipalities, who cannot afford to hire a lawyer, will no more have to go to Telavi to receive free legal assistance. This will save them money for travel and time.
Today, Legal Aid Service has 19 offices in big cities throughout the county. The insolvent citizens can receive advocacy service on criminal cases, family and inheritance disputes, as well as cases of social protection. The free legal aid is ensured for insolvent IDPs and victims of domestic violence.
