Meeting Dedicated to Violence Issues

As a part of the global campaign “Violence against Women and Domestic Violence”, the LAS Kutaisi Bureau held some meetings in the region.

On November 28, the cultural-humanitarian fund “Sokhumi” organized the roundtable on “Prevention of Violence and Protection of Victims of Violence”. The Fund members, partners and beneficiaries took part in the meeting. The LAS Kutaisi Bureau lawyers informed the attendees about the work of the Service with regard to rights of women and other issues.
The following day, the youth organization ELSA Tbilisi invited the head of the LAS Imereti-Kutaisi Bureau Gela Siordia delivered the lecture on “Overload of Courts and Role of a Citizen”. The students were interested in procedures envisaged by the Georgian legislation for applying to the court, as well as terms, deadlines, court fee and other legal issues. The discussion was held with the participation of the representatives from Legal Aid Service and the Georgian Young Lawyers Association. The audience got introduced with the statistical data showing the activity of the citizens in applying their right to protect and restore their rights and freedoms and accessibility of court and free legal aid for the citizens. 

On December 5, again the ELSA Kutaisi and the LAS Imereti-Kutaisi Bureau lawyers held another meeting. The students had questions regarding the rights of the convicted women and the legal guarantees for the protection of their interests – conditions in the penitentiary institution, rights to visits and labors, etc.

That day, the LAS employees participated in the meeting carried out in the Kutaisi medical college “Sio”. The majority of the attendees were women and accordingly the main topic of the meeting was rights of women. The college students and teachers received information about the LAS services, hotline and other mechanisms for legal consultation.
