The LAS Kvemo Kartli Bureau lawyer, Maia Nozadze, defended interests of R.Kh. who was a citizen of Georgia with the Azeri nationality. He was accused of the illicit purchase-keeping of the narcotics (article 260 of the Criminal Code of Georgia).
R.Kh. was assigned a lawyer at the expense of the state, on the basis of “b” paragraph of article 45 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, because the defendant did not speak the language of the trial. The Bolnisi District Court examined the case for several months. Victims and experts were questioned during the trials. The judge carefully examined the written and material evidence. The questions that were asked by the defense party showed that the position of the prosecution was built up with only doubts and assumptions.
The public lawyer Maia Nozadze, in her closing speech, presented her counter-arguments which were based on the Criminal Code of Georgia, article 40 of the Constitution and the European Constitution of Human Rights and Freedoms and demanded acquittal of R.Kh. in the presented count.
The court shared the position of the defense party and on January 9, 2018, found the defendant R.Kh. not guilty.
