The mock trial was held in Abasha on May 17, organized by the Legal Aid Service and assisted by the Council of Europe (COE), in which a case of premeditated murder was considered by "jurors". The prosecution and the defense were represented by the Legal Aid Service staff, while the jury was composed of young people living in Abasha, with high school students included.
The youth from Abasha listened carefully to both sides, asked questions, discussed a lot on the evidence presented by the prosecution, and finally, came up with the relevant verdict.
The vast majority of the young people in the role of "jurors" attended the trial for the first time. The current case turned out to be very interesting for the youth and they gained a lot of experience by participating in the discussion.Consequently if they ever really have to participate in a jury trial, the above experience will be very helpful for the attendees.
It should be noted that the jury mock trial in which the jurors and the participants have to be the local population, aims at raising the legal awareness of the locals and potentially praparing them for real participation in jusy trials.
