On July 16, at the Gori District Court there was held a mock trial, which was carried out within the framework of the movement "Make the Law Accessible to All" initiated by the Legal Aid Service. The criminal case (a murder) was heard by 12 jurors selected from the local population. In the mock trial, the prosecution and the defense, as well as the accused, the victim and part of the witnesses, consisted of the Legal Aid staff.
The mock trial of jurors, in which the judges and attenders must be the population of the region , is aimed at raising the legal awareness of the population and potentially preparing them for real participation in the trials of jurors.
Director of the Legal Aid Service, Razhden Kuprashvili said: Today in Gori we conducted one of the most important project activities of the movement "Make the Law Accessible to All" - a mock trial of jurors, in which the population of the region participated directly. It is delightful, that the young people of Gori were actively involved in the process and probably the goal has been achieved, as the participants in the process will never forget the present day and what is more important, they will be more prepared to meet the proposal if they are offered to participate in the jury trial.
The "Make the Law Accessible to All" movement is supported by USAID-PROLoG and the COE. Activities across the country will continue until the end of the year.
