On August 12, 2015, the LAS Tbilisi Legal Aid Bureau lawyer, Irakli Esiava was assigned to defend interests of the citizen S.J. at Tbilisi City Court. He was charged with the article 223 prima (membership of the criminal world, being a criminal authority).
The defendant avoided appearing at the court. According to the prosecution, in 2009, Zugdidi District Court charged the citizen S.J. with several counts of the Criminal Code. As a result, he faced 18 years of imprisonment.
The public lawyer, Irakli Esiava, presented the court his arguments and put under the doubt those evidences of the prosecution, including the secret audio records.
Finally, Tbilisi City Court heard testimonies of the witnesses, examined the other materials of the criminal law case and shared the position of the public attorney. On November 3, 2017, the citizen S.J. was found not guilty in the presented charge.
