The LAS Samegrelo-Poti Bureau employees – Natia Pachkoria and Koba Gabelia met with the Poti public school N6 on February 7, 2018. The aim of the local consultation was to inform the youth about the legal services and accessible free legal assistance.
As it is known, Legal Aid Service exercises compulsory defense of minors on criminal cases since the day it was founded. In 2017, the LAS bureaus lawyers defended interests of 1005 minors in different courts.
The Poti Bureau representatives rendered consultation to minors on domestic violence issues, namely, early marriage, relations between parents and children, avoidance of bad influence on minors. The focus was made on Code of Juvenile Justice which entered into force in 2016 and establishes standards for specific treatment towards children. The pupils were actively involved in the discussion. The lawyers answered pupils’ questions.
The similar meetings are planned in other schools of Poti municipality.
