A mock trial was held in Batumi court

On October 5, in the Batumi City Court, there was held a mock trial with the participation of the Legal Aid Service  Batumi Bureau staff.

The trial concerned a criminal case,  a police officer in particular, who was arrested on charges of torturing a detainee, but had prevented a terrorist act and saved the lives of up to 300 children.

The case was considered by "jurors",  composed of young people from Batumi. As a result of a tense hour-long court hearing, a bill of indictment was drawn up against the accused of torture.

The main purpose of mock trials is to raise the legal awareness of the population and preparing them for the involvement of jurors in a real trial.

The lawsuit was conducted as part of the Legal Aid Service campaign "Make the Law Accessible to All" and it is supported by the COE of the Council of Europe.
