An important meeting was held in Khelvachauri "Women's Room"

The Legal Aid Service joined the 16-day campaign to eliminate violence against women and domestic violence, and on December 9, 2021, Nino Sharashidze, a legal consultant at the Batumi Legal Aid Bureau, held an outreach meeting with beneficiaries in the so-called "Women's Room" in Khelvachauri Municipality. The main purpose of the meeting was to inform the beneficiaries in the best possible way about women's rights in general, equality between women and men, non-discrimination on the basis of gender, as well as the rights of victims of violence against women and the family, and also on the state mechanisms and means of their protection. The meeting accentuated the harmful practices that have long been introduced in the context of restrictions on women's rights, such as discrimination on the grounds of sex, early marriage, forced marriage, restriction of property rights for women, family legal problems, domestic violence, etc. Beneficiaries were clarified about the rights of women and victims of domestic violence, the means and mechanisms of their protection and diversion from violence, the importance of restraining and protective orders, deadlines, issuing bodies, the role, and functions of shelters and crisis centers, criminal, civil and administrative law and others. Beneficiaries were also informed on the role of the Legal Aid Service in protecting women and victims of domestic violence. In particular, the Legal Aid Service provides the beneficiaries with both- legal advice and legal aid, which implies the drafting of legal documents and the protection of the interests of victims in administrative proceedings in court, regardless of their solvency. The meeting discussed the presented topic and everyone agreed on the idea that each citizen should make even the smallest contribution to the prevention of gender-based violence. The lawyer-consultant also delivered individual legal consultations to the audience.
