The main goal of the meeting was to raise the legal awareness of adolescents, to inform them about issues regulated and defined by international and domestic legislation related to children's rights and mechanisms for protecting these rights, the concerns arising from the Juvenile Justice Code, rights and obligations, age and extent of responsibility, importance and inadmissibility of discrimination and bullying. They discussed the rights of victims of violence, including women abuse and domestic violence, and state mechanisms and means of their protection. The lawyers covered the issues like equality, best interests of minors, the need to listen to minors and share their opinions, and other important issues defined by the General Education Code. Lawyers presented samples of lawsuits and court orders tailored to children, which aroused great interest among the audience. The meeting was as informative as it could be.
Very productive and effective feedback came from students, including lower-grade youngsters and teachers. The meeting continued in a question-and-answer mode, and the lawyers were pleasantly surprised by numerous questions from the students, which related to all legal issues and were supported by specific examples. Representatives of the Batumi Legal Aid Bureau provided comprehensive information on all questions and issues raised.
