EU and UN Support LAS in Development of Modern Computer Technologies

With assistance of the European Union and the United Nations, Legal Aid Service continues to improve computer program – Case Bank which is used by the LAS lawyers to produce cases. A new stage of update of the program was successfully completed. As a result, the lawyers of private practice, who are registered in the registry of the contracted lawyers and deliver free legal service to citizens on the basis of the agreement with Legal Aid Service, will get involved in electronic case management process.

On March 3-4, training was held at Tbilisi Legal Aid Bureau where the registry lawyers got introduced with amendments made in Case Bank program and specifics of its work. The training was led by Ms. Mariam Zangaladze – director of the company Idea Design Group who has been working on development of Case Bank.

Case Bank was implemented in Legal Aid Service in 2014 with support of UNDP and the Open Society – Georgia Foundation. This computer program gathers data regarding the handled cases, rendered consultations and drafted documents. The program has a function of data processing and analysis.

The update of Case Bank has started in 2016. The LAS lawyers who work on civil and administrative cases joined the electronic program last year. In 2017, it is planned to elaborate a new web application which enables the LAS lawyers to work in Case Bank not only from the office but from any place where the internet is available. The work on Case Bank is carried out as a part of the EU and UN joint project – Enhancing Access to Justice and Development of a Child-Friendly Justice System in Georgia.
