The child was turned back to her home

A lawyer from the Mtskheta Legal Aid Bureau  Natia Berdzenishvili represented the interests of the minor girl both  in the Mtskheta District Court, then in the Tbilisi Court of Appeal. The child was initially separated by the Mtskheta District Court and placed in a family-type home for a duration  of six months, based on the petition of the LEPL  Agency for the State Care and Assistance Agency for the  Victims of Human Traffiking.

Following a one-year extension of the separation period, the agency was now seeking a one-year extension. The child's attorney reviewed the case files, met with the youngster, heard her thoughts on the matter, and enquired as to whether she approved of the petition that was filed. First, the court heard that the youngster’s viewpoint that she  wanted to go back to her family and considered what was in her best interests.

This position was also held by the court of first instance. Lawyer Natia Berdzenishvili represented the child's interests when the LEPL State Care and Assistance Agency for Victims of Trafficking challenged the verdict to the Tbilisi Court of Appeal. The court of appeals rejected the appeal about the extension of the child- parents separation and upheld the first instance's ruling, which is final and unchallengeable. The child was given back to her biological family.
