The Mtskheta District Court was reviewing the issue of extending the separation period of the minor M.A. from its parents' residence. The minor's interests were represented by Natia Berzenishvili, an attorney from the Mtskheta Legal Aid Bureau. The minor M.A. had lived for several years in a family-type institution after her mother was detained.
However, after her release, mother attempted to arrange suitable living conditions for her child and showed care even when the latter was under state custody, as she wanted her child to have back. The Mtskheta District Court considered the request of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Regional Center of the Agency for State Care and Assistance for the Victims of Human Trafficking to extend the separation period of the minor from the parents for another 6 months.
Attorney Natia Berdzenishvili met with the minor, its parents, visited the child's living conditions on site, studied the mother's activities and submitted relevant evidence to the court with a request to return the child to live with its mother. The judge shared the lawyer's position, removed the child from state care and gave it back to the mother. The Agency for State Care and Assistance to Victims of Trafficking appealed the decision of the Mtskheta District Court, however, due to Natia Berdzenishvili's efforts, the Court of Appeal upheld the first instance decision. At present, minor M.A. is living with its mother again.
